2010 Art Report
Our 2010 Visual Arts year began with the portfolio front covers, which were a riot of colour! Painting was next on the list followed by the World cup projects. Radiant pastel work, organic drawing, watercolours, pen and ink, koki pens, fineliners, pencil crayons, collage and clay were also tackled during the year. Great fun was had by everyone! The vibrant results were proudly displayed in both halls during prize-giving.
The art room became a place of peace and tranquility as we embraced the Lions International World Peace Poster competition, which saw our grade 4 – 7 artists participating. Their wonderful, brightly coloured posters were created with a very strong ‘peace’ message.
Drew Morgan was our school’s winner of the Lions Peace Poster competition and was awarded an Art scroll. The other top 4 artworks chosen for an exhibition by Lions were Jacolene Slabber, George Jensen, Christy Uderstadt and Caitlyn Rogers who also received their scrolls.
Our Art department is set to expand soon and become one of the best Prep school facilities in Port Elizabeth. Fundraising and donations towards the building of our Arts and Media Center are due to facilitate this in the near future. We appeal to all for any support you are able to give to our wonderful creative department!
The annual artwork of the year for 2010 and the Joan Gay art award was won by Skye Leask due to her unwavering dedication to art and excellence in creative and technical ability.
I am also very proud of the Art Shield winners in Grade 7 namely, Drew Morgan, Chloe Farley, Cody Hubert, Jacolene Slabber, Keyani Mitri, Sonali Madhoo and Christy Uderstadt.
We are so proud of Skye Leask, Caitlyn Rogers, Bianca Gascoyne and Alison Soutar who were all finalists in the Santam Child Art Competition and received their scrolls and half colours.
Joshua Stephenson was chosen as one of the top 25 Grade R/0/1 collages in the Mr Pritt Collage Competition.
These young artists deserve our hearty congratulations. The class prize winners in each class are also commended for their excellent work during the year!
