St George's Prep has an indoor Aquatic Centre with a heated pool. Swimming plays an important part in the summer sports programme, not only catering for team participation, but encouraging individuals to achieve to their full potential. Winter swimming is also offered.
During Physical Education lessons all the children are taught the basic skill, laying the foundation for those who wish to take the sport more seriously. Early morning swimming offers an opportunity for the keen children to get extra practice in stroke correction, relay starts and diving.
We have a team of 50+ swimmers with a girls’ and boys’ captain. The children also participate in A, B and C League Galas against local schools. Friendly galas are swum against some independent schools and an annual quadrangular gala takes place in March. The Inter-House Gala is also an annual event and well supported by parents.
At the Inter-house Gala held on Wednesday 24 February 2010 the following awards were made:
Junior Victrix Ludorum: Josie Claassen
Junior Victor Ludorum: Cole Craig and Stijn Majoor
Senior Victrix Ludorum: Ali Mitchley
Senior Victor Ludorum: Darreth Gordon.

2011 Report

St George’s Prep Swimming has really taken off this year.  The new swimming captains were selected and Ali Mitchley and Joshua van den Berg were chosen to lead the school team. Six of our swimmers were chosen to represent St George’s at the Top Eight Gala on Saturday 12 March: Jessica Beukes, Josie Claassen, Deacon Kingman, Mikaela Miller, Stijn Majoor and Linde Majoor. We also held our annual school gala where Brawn was victorious. The junior Victor and Victrix Ludorum went to Jessica Beukes and Cole Craig respectively. Ali Mitchley and Stijn Majoor were the senior champions.

This year they are unfortunately not selecting an Eastern Cape Swimming Team. They however, still had trials and many our swimmers performed well. The best performances came from Ali Mitchley, Jessica Beukes, Cole Craig and Josie Claassen. Ali won the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle and Jessica won the 50m butterfly.  Cole Craig finished in 1st position in the 50m butterfly with Josie finishing in 2nd position in her race.
