Our Pre-Primary is situated on the hill next to the Preparatory School. The setting is tranquil with a view over the Baakens Valley towards Algoa Bay.
The Pre-Primary caters for children aged 4 to 6 years in Grade 0 and Grade R. The children have a secure, well-equipped playground and are able to participate in a caring, colourful learning environment. Classes are small and individual needs monitored.
Our children have access to computer facilities and they follow the Knowledge Network computer curriculum, which is also used in the Preparatory School. Letterland is introduced in the Grade 0 class. During the second half of the Reception year (Grade R), reading is introduced, where children can progress at their own pace.
We believe in creating an environment that not only stimulates the young mind, but also caters for the development of social skills and emotional well-being in a secure, consistent and loving way.

2010 Pre-Primary Report
2010 has been an exciting and busy year down at the Pre-Primary. The first term flew by with many events and activities. In February Dawn Yearwood kindly opened her beautiful home for us to enjoy our mothers’ tea. It was a relaxed morning for moms and teachers to get to know one another. Soon after that it was time for the annual family fun evening. With the cricket happening just up the road some of the staff had to play car guard and safeguard our limited parking spaces from the cricket fans! It was a beautiful evening with good food, good company and the children having fun buying popcorn and watching the Lion King ‘Drive-In style’ outdoors. As the term came to an end moms and children got busy creating wonderful and colourful hats for our Easter Bonnet Parade. The school has grown to such an extent that we were able to spread out from end to end across the playground and enjoy watching the variety of great and grand hat creations parading past.Miss Tapson was the first to spot the Easter Bunny leaping over the fence, which started a stampede of laughing excited little people on a hunt for chocolate eggs and sightings of the Bunny. The day ended with tea, hot cross buns and doughnuts.
Term two was abuzz with World Cup fever and as a Pre-Primary we got right into the spirit of things by proudly wearing our yellow Bafana Bafana T-shirts on Fridays. By the end of the term our children knew all the countries playing in the games and their respective flags. Getting into the celebrations of St George’s Day the Grade 3s came over and read their own stories about George and the dragon to the delight of the Pre-Primary children. On the 23rd of April we celebrated St George’s day with the Prep school and College. On the 7th of May the Pre-Primary moms were invited to join us for tea and a morning in class with their children. It is always lovely to have the parents so involved in their children’s schooling. The next day (being a Saturday) we all appeared bright-eyed and full of energy down at Kings Beach for the annual St George’s Schools beach fun run. With legs going and arms waving wildly our little people ran with gusto across the treacherous 50m of sand to the finish line. It was almost time for World Cup craze to hit so by the 4th of June we could ‘feel it in the air’. When the dads arrived for father’s day, the children led the way in getting them all dancing to the soccer rhythms of the Diski dance.
On the 31st of July we had a fabulous mothers’ breakfast where ladies could browse and buy at a variety of clothing, cosmetic, linen and gift stalls in the hall. We were all inspired by Janine’s colourful gift decorating ideas and a self-defense lesson that had some brave moms trying out defense moves on our Judo demonstrators! Once again we had a great day at the food fair and moms provided plenty of tasty treats for our tea garden.
This year we invited grandparents to attend the dress rehearsal of our annual concert on the Thursday and parents on the Friday giving us more space to fit everyone into the hall. The concert was a roaring success again as all the children took part and delighted the audiences with their singing and acting.
As the year draws to a close we prepare for our Nativity play and to say farewell to our Grade Rs as they set off for Grade 1. Miss Kirsty Tapson has crept into all our hearts here at St George’s and so we say a sad goodbye to her, but we wish her everything of the best for her studies in Australia next year. Also we would like to extend a big thank you to all the parents who have helped and contributed to the many activities in the Pre-Primary family for 2010.
