Hockey is a well-supported winter sport at St George’s, with six girls’ teams entered into the leagues. Regular tours are undertaken- this year we plan to tour Cape Town and East London.  Furthermore, there are many pupils, including boys, who participate on a social level or who are members of squads that focus on skills development.  Our enthusiastic, well-qualified coaches are dedicated to developing our young players into competent members of competitive teams.

2012 Season

The girls' First team had an amazing and exciting week to start the 2012 season.

On Friday, 13 April we played two matches, one against Summerwood and the second against Priory.  We narrowly lost both matches 1-0.

On Saturday 14 April we took part in the Collegiate tournament.  The girls played great hockey and we lost 1-0 to Stirling and drew against Sunridge, Kingsridge, Herbert Hurd and Lorraine.

On Wednesday 18 April we played three games at the Gelvan Astroturf.  We beat Triomf 3-0 (Marina scoring all 3 goals!).  We then beat Astro Primary 2-0 (Pavana scoring both goals). We drew our last game against Gelvan Primary.

2011 Report

It has once again been a very successful season. We started off with a hockey tournament during the 75th school birthday celebrations and all our teams participated  in a fun filled morning against Harvest Christian, Woodridge and Clarendon Park. The rain came down towards the end of the morning and some matches had to be cancelled due to the fields being dangerous to play on.

Ali Mitchley, Callan Johnson, Khanya Dambuza, Ilse-Mari Visser and Sarah Henderson were selected to play trials at St Dominic’s Priory in May. Ilse-Mari went through to the second round of trials. Well done, Ilse-Mari, the competition was tough and you did us proud.

The first boys hockey, soccer and girls hockey teams went on a tour to Knysna in July. We played several schools in the Knysna, George and Oudtshoorn area.

We were entered into the first league this year and I am so proud of the standard of hockey that was played. The first team also played in a wonderful tournament held at Collegiate. Well done, girls, you are an asset to our school.

I wish to thank our coaches and student coaches for their commitment to hockey and also the parents for their enthusiastic support on the side of the field at matches and tournaments.

The first team results for the season are as follows:

Won                      Drew                     Lost

1                           2                           12
