St George’s Preparatory celebrates its 75th birthday in 2011 and the school is using this occasion not only to celebrate this milestone, but also to raise funds to build a much needed Arts and Media Centre.  This facility will house an art studio, drama studio, computer centre and an extended library.
The ever-increasing demand for quality private education in Port Elizabeth, and the particular attraction that St George’s Prep holds for families in this area, has resulted in pupil numbers at the school growing significantly over the past few years.  In order to sustain this, we need to expand our facilities to meet this demand. During the 2009/2010 strategic planning sessions undertaken by the staff and management of the school, the establishment of an Arts and Media Centre was identified as a priority in order to free up much needed space in the central teaching block of the school.  The building will be developed along sound ‘green’ principles and will use the beauty of its natural surroundings to enhance the learning experience.
It is with this in mind that the St George’s Millennium Trust has undertaken to support the Prep by using the platform of the school’s 75th birthday to launch a fundraising campaign in order to fund this development.
The Millennium Trust was established in 2002 with the sole purpose of supporting the Prep in any fundraising initiatives deemed necessary and appropriate.  The Trust is currently chaired by Alan Young, a former chairman of the St George’s Prep Governing Council.  With the establishment of the College 9 years ago, the Trust now also extends its support to the College.  Any funds raised during this 75th initiative will, however, go directly to the Prep.
Please keep visiting this web page to keep up to date with the various initiatives being undertaken as they unfold, including the events planned for 2011 that you can be part of.
