Durban Sports Tour 2010
On Monday, April 12, the 1st Team hockey Girls, Hockey Boys and Soccer Boys departed from Port Elizabeth to Durban for our Annual Sports Tour. Once we arrived in Durban, we got onto our bus and drove to the Southern Sun Hotel.  We went through the rules and were then left to unpack and explore. We met in the hotel foyer for our opening sports dinner.
We woke up on Tuesday with an early morning call to tell us breakfast was in 30 minutes. We dressed quickly and went to the Dining Floor. What was waiting for us was the most amazing breakfast of bacon, eggs, doughnuts and fruit.
Our bus arrived shortly after breakfast and we were on our way to Gateways to watch the movie “How to Train Your Dragon” at IMAX. It was amazing, and I advise anyone who reads this to go and watch it!! We then made our way to Hillcrest Christian Academy, where all the teams played very well! After a long afternoon we showered and dressed back at the hotel to be ready for Ice skating. It was so much fun, and hilarious to watch everyone falling all over the place.
After breakfast on Wednesday, we went to the Sharks Board, where we saw a shark being dissected. After an eventful view of the stomach, intestines, heart, liver and even what was inside the nose, we made our way to St Mary’s DSG where our first team girls played against their team. After the girls match, we went to Highbury Prep.
The next day was the day everyone was waiting for: Ushaka Marine World - where we were to spend most of the day. We had the most unbelievable time  there!!!! There were no hockey matches, just a soccer match. The boys played an excellent game against Umhlanga College.
Friday the 16th was the most eventful day of all, every team played two matches in the scorching Durban heat. We all played very well against Winston Park and Scottsville. After all the matches had ended, we made our way back to the hotel. We all  freshened up and went to watch the Sharks (XV) against the Pampas (XV) at the Absa Stadium. It had been a very long day for all of us. After supper we had to go to our rooms and pack. By 11 pm most of us got everything ready and listened to the running up and down in the passage. We only got to bed by about  1am on Saturday morning, because we all thought it was a great idea to stay up until 4 o’clock- the time we had to get ready for the drive to the airport. But after watching many series of Cow and Chicken, we couldn’t keep our eyes open. Some people on the tour were a little difficult to wake up. Most of us don’t remember the flight back; as we were trying to catch up the sleep we had lost on tour. Thanks to all the teachers who gave up their time to be with us, we all had a fantastic trip!
